- I'm a retiree. gardener, lover of poetry, art, and all sorts of things. For many years of my middle life I lived in the Northwestern US (sometimes touted as God's Country) where gardening is possible with a lot of extra effort. If you are west of the mountains, don't count on sunshine. If you live east of the mountains, don't count on water. South Jersey is an Eden for planting things.
